Blue Chip founder says $209m fund helps country’s semiconductor industry

KUALA LUMPUR — A new Malaysian venture capital firm focused on the semiconductor industry plans to invest in more than 10 startups through its $209 million fund, hoping to help advance the Southeast Asian country’s chip industry.

Lai Pin Yong, co-founder and chairman of Blue Chip Venture Capital, told Nikkei Asia in an interview that Malaysia is well positioned to develop its semiconductor industry, as the Southeast Asian electronics manufacturing hub attracts businesses and the global supply chain grows more diverse.
